Professor Carol Dweck introduced the term Growth Mindset and Fixed Mindset in 2007 as a result of her research into motivation and personal development.
People with a Growth Mindset believe they can change their intelligence and personality with enough effort that they can learn skills through hard work. Your brain and talent are just the beginning. As a result, you embrace learning and create courage to face challenges. “If I work hard enough I can learn anything.” With a Fixed Mindset on the other hand, people believe that their intelligence and talent are fixed and that this cannot be changed. “I can’t learn guitar because I’m not musically inclined.”
Everyone has both a Growth and a Fixed Mindset and the ratio can change again and again. The goal is to be in the Growth Mindset as much as possible so that we are not afraid to make mistakes, to learn, to take new paths. For further explanation see this video:
